Shopping Malls and Retail Complexes 
  • Coastal Grand Mall (843) 839-9100. The Myrtle Beach area's newest mall - and South Carolina's largest - opened in March 2004. The 1.5-million-square-foot, fully enclosed complex is on U.S. 17 Bypass, near Myrtle Beach International Airport. The mall now features three anchor stores (Belk's, Dillard's, and Sears), restaurants, a 14-screen cinema with stadium seating, and more than 100 other shops. Numerous restaurants, retail stores, and other establishments have opened on mall outparcels.

  • Colonial Mall (843) 272-4040. Colonial Mall is home to JCPenney, Belk, Books-A-Million, Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World (the only one in South Carolina) and numerous eateries - including Islamorada Fish Co. In 2006, a 12-screen theater with stadium seating will make its debut, replacing the mall's former theater.

  • Inlet Square Mall (843) 651-6990. This mall in Murrells Inlet houses more than 55 stores and specialty shops, a 12-screen movie theater, food court and new soft play area for kids. Anchor stores include Belk, JCPenney, Kmart, and Books-A-Million.

  • Barefoot Landing (800) 272-2320. Barefoot Landing blends the beauty of nature with miles of boardwalk, more than 100 specialty shops, and 15 waterfront restaurants. This popular complex - adjacent to the Intracoastal Waterway - is also home to Alligator Adventure, the House of Blues restaurant and concert hall, the Alabama Theater, and Barefoot riverboat cruises.

  • Broadway at the Beach (800) FUN-INMB. This unique venue is another favorite among shoppers. In addition to browsing through boutiques, gift shops, candy stores, and dozens of other specialty shops, visitors can enjoy numerous restaurants and attractions - including Hard Rock Cafe, IMAX Discovery Theater, Planet Hollywood, Ripley's Aquarium, MagiQuest, and a 16-screen cinema. New additions include Jimmy's Buffet's Margaritaville restaurant, gondolas with singing gondoliers, and more than two dozen new shops.

      The Myrtle Beach area has long been called the "seaside golf capital of the World". Now the area has a new moniker - thanks to Sports Illustrated magazine and the National Recreation and Park Association: "Sportstown USA." While golf is the Grand Strand's No. 1 sport, the area also boasts professional baseball, auto racing, tennis, water sports, recreational fishing, high school and youth activities - including the annual Beach Ball Classic national basketball tournament - and much more.
      • Myrtle Beach Pelicans. (877) 918-TIXX. The Pelicans, an Atlanta Braves Carolina League Class-A affiliate, have sent numerous players on to the "big leagues" in Atlanta. The team's season begins in April and wraps up in September. Along with exciting sports action, fans are treated to between-inning entertainment that's fun for the whole family. For example, in 2005 1,827 Pelicans fans donned Groucho Marx glasses, breaking the previous record recorded with the Guinness Book of World Records! Coastal Federal Field (21st Ave. N., Myrtle Beach) is the team's home field.

      • Myrtle Beach Speedway. (843) 236-0500. Enjoy professional and amateur racing on a half-mile, tri-oval asphalt track sanctioned by NASCAR. Races are scheduled every Saturday, April through September, with special events adding to the fun.

      • The Ripken Experience - Myrtle Beach. (843) 918-7815. The Ripken Experience opened in June 2006 as one of the nation's top youth sports facilities - with six youth and three regulation-sized baseball fields, each modeled after one of the game's historic parks, including the Polo Grounds, Comiskey Park, and Forbes Field. The Ripken Experience brings tournament play and baseball camps to the Myrtle Beach Area. Each of the fields at The Ripken Experience are made from FieldTurf®, the game's most advanced artificial surface.

      • Fishing. Fishing can be enjoyed along the Grand Strand from one of eight piers, along the beach, as well as in backwater creeks between Georgetown and Little River - where the crabbing is great, too. More serious anglers can board a head boat for bottom fishing, or charter a boat and venture all the way to the Gulf Stream - just 60 miles offshore - for true deep-sea sports fishing.
